League of Legends Animated Series: Arcane (2021) | Jinx and Vi Will Appear in This?

Arcane is an animated television series set in the League of Legends universe. The series will be developed and produced by Riot, animated by Fortiche Productions, and its first season is expected to release in 2020.

Arcane: Animated Series Announcement

It is been more than 10 years since League of Legends (LoL) released. This game has grown into one of the world’s most popular games. With more than 100 million active monthly players, two professional sports leagues, multiple yearly competitive tournaments with purses topping $6 million and more than $1.4 million in global revenue in 2018, Riot Games development team is pushing to expand its flagship brand even farther.

Besides putting League of Legend’ summoners rift and Teamfight Tactics to console and mobile platforms, releasing digital card game titled Legends of Runeterra, and multiplayer first-person shooter game Valorant, Riot is also working on a new and exciting project.

Riot Games is working on its first television series based on the League of Legends universe, Arcane. This is an animated show developed internally by Riot Games and animated by Paris-based Fortiche Productions, which has worked with the company on reveal trailers for its champions in the past.

Riot Games’ Co-Founder and Co-Chairman, Brandon Beck said: “Arcane is one of these big, exciting endeavors for us. Originally, League started with a bunch of characters and we threw them together really quickly. Over time, players became really attached to the characters and we wanted to build more of a universe around them.”

Arcane Release Date

Like the game on which it is based, Arcane is aimed at a “14+” audience and will deal with some more adult subject matter. Riot’s head of creative development, Greg Street said:” It’s not a light-hearted show. There are some serious themes that we explore there, so we wouldn’t want kids tuning in and expecting something that it’s not.”

Riot Games’ Co-Founder, Brandom Beck mentioned that they are building relationships in Hollywood. Hopefully, this animated series will not only bring League of Legends, but also Riot Games into a higher level, to reach other audience than just the League player community.

Arcane’s first season is expected to release in 2020. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Riot Games decided to delay the worldwide release of the animated series to 2021.

Will Jinx and Vi be in Arcane?

The Arcane TV series focuses on retells the origin stories of several characters from Piltover and Zaun. Piltover and Zaun are a part of the same area, but one is seen as the light and the latter as the dark.

Champions of Piltover include peacekeepers, elite agents, and adventurers Camille, Caitlyn, Ezreal, Jayce, and Oriana. On the other hand, those of Zaun include Jinx, Ekko, Twitch, Blitzcrank, and Dr. Mundo.

As shown in the end of Riot’s Arcane Animated announcement video above, we could easily notice familar long blue twin braids. Not only so, but her unique evil/maniac laugh along with this image is also clear evidence that Jinx will be in this series.

According to Daily Esports, the TV series features two iconic League of Legends champions and the “power that tears them apart.” This seems to confirm that the champions Jinx and Vi will be the main characters. “Jinx is described as a maniac and impulsive criminal, because of her hatred of boredom. Vi is also originally a criminal from Zaun, but she ends up working with the Wardens to keep the peace in Piltover.
