The Empyrean skin line set the stage as the official splash art and trailer is announced
League of Legends fans were pleasantly surprised today with a new trailer for the Empyrean skinline, corresponding characters, and a release date. The Empyrean skin line was leaked months ago, but there was never much to show in terms of splash art and in-game looks.
On October 17, Riot Games unexpectedly revealed the splash art, which can be seen in the image above, as well as the in-game models and abilities, which can be seen in the gameplay trailer.
The Empyrean skins appear to be inspired by Dark Star and the glowing vibes of PROJECT skin line. The soundtrack and cinematics for the Empyrean 2022 skins are enjoyable, but it’s also nice to see the cosmetics in-game.
This gives players a clearer sense of how the skins will appear next to each other, which could have been confusing with the recent Pyke texture skin leaks.
Fortunately, the neon designs are full of personality and stand out from the crowd, while also implementing successful elements from previous lines. More importantly, Empyrean 2022 is daring without being overly so, which can be a difficult skin line to walk for any title. It has also been a source of contention in previous League of Legends releases.
Fans have also praised with the selection of champions to appear in the skin line:
- Jax
- Jhin
- K’Sante
- Lux
- Pyke
- Vex
- Zac
- Zed
This also means that Empyrean will be K’Sante’s launch skin, removing a layer of mystery surrounding the champion whose abilities were recently revealed. Meanwhile, Pyke receives the Legendary skin, while the rest are most likely in the Epic tier.
