Riot is making huge improvements to LoL’s ranked systems and rewards ahead of 2023 season. The changes are expected to better reward the time and effort players put into grinding while do away with antiquated structures that persisted since early days of League.
League will have 2 ranked resets in 2023
The first will occur in January while the 2nd is expected to be in the middle of the years though the exact date is TBA. Players often reach their goal for ranked halfway through the year so the new system will ensure players always have a goal to strive for throughout the year.
2 ranked splits also come with 2 ranked skins, and players of ALL rank will receive a skin reward not just Gold and above. Additional chromas will still be awarded to players the higher they climb.
You will earn split point for every game you play, a bit less for a loss, and ranked rewards have been expanded to include Hextech Keys, chests and unlock others as you progress along the split.
In addition, promotion series between tiers will be Best of 3 instead of Best of 5, and Riot’s also removing visible rank influence from matches
Ranked rewards will receive a huge overhaul
Previous split rewards only had 4 and were pretty far apart, thus making players feel unrewarded for queueing ranked and failing to motivate players to play at all. Riot’s increasing the number of rewards, placing them earlier on the track and reducing the number of games required to reach them
Riot’s also looking at Victorious Skin among other rewards to update them to current standards. Previously the skin was only rewarded to Gold players and above, causing many to simply stop the grind after reaching Gold.
Now players below Gold will have a chance to receive the Victorious Skin, but will need to put in serious amount of games. Additionally the skin will be unlocked the moment a player hits Gold even if they fall back down to Silver, so you can keep on playing without fear of losing out of the reward.
