To mark the release of Arcane Season 2, Riot Games is launching a variety of cosmetics across its games, including League of Legends, Valorant, and Teamfight Tactics (TFT). However, it’s the new Arcane Fractured Jinx skin, introduced through a gacha system, that has raised concerns among players.
League of Legends new Arcane Nexus Finisher
Cosmetics play a huge role in enhancing the League of Legends experience, allowing players to customize their game with Skins, Emotes, Icons, Borders, and more.
In a recent Dev Blog, Riot revealed a fresh batch of cosmetics, including a new skin tier known as Exalted Skins, changes to the Mythic Shop, and the introduction of Nexus Finishers.
Unlike typical skins, which can be bought directly at a fixed price, Exalted Skins will be obtained through a new system called the Sanctum. This system operates similarly to banners seen in popular gacha games like Genshin Impact, where players spend in-game currency to pull from a randomized pool of rewards.
To unlock rewards in The Sanctum, players need to buy Ancient Sparks at 400 RP each. These sparks do not expire, and Riot has included a “bad-luck protection” feature, often referred to as a “pity system.” This guarantees that players will obtain the Arcane Fractured Jinx skin after 80 pulls, but that would cost 32,000 RP, which is around $250.
Many players have compared this system to the one used in Teamfight Tactics for cosmetics, which also features a Genshin-style banner system. However, players have pointed out that League’s new Exalted system seems to be more unforgiving than TFT’s.
This isn’t the first time League of Legends players have expressed frustration over Riot’s use of gacha mechanics in the game. Just last year, the Dark Cosmic Erasure Jhin skin followed a similar pattern, sparking a similar outcry from the community.
As of now, Riot has not announced an official release date for the Arcane Fractured Jinx skin, but it’s clear that the community is not pleased with the introduction of the Sanctum gacha system. The high cost and random nature of the system have sparked backlash, with many fans feeling that the monetization model is unfair.
