Former League pro Alex Ich announces to join Riot Games as software engineer

Alex Ich, former League of Legends professional player, today announced that he would join Riot Games as a software engineer.

Alexey “Alex Ich” Ichetovkin is one of the oldest and most legendary names in the professional League, since his career started almost ten years ago in 2011 when he joined the inaugural Moscow Five. For years, Alex Ich spearheaded the organization, leading the team, which eventually rebranded as Gambit Gaming, as appear in the 2012 and 2013 Worlds quarterfinals.

He used to make many European fans fidgety with extremely “weird” cards: Malphite,Tryndamere mid lane or Master Yi AP, Evelynn Kha’zix mid lane,…

Master Yi AP

Since leaving Gambit in 2014, Alex Ich had several years of extensive experience in the North American LCS, but with little success.

After the 2018 competitive season, he eventually announced his retirement, resulting in a brief change of focus towards streaming industry career. Now, almost two years later, he is set to join Riot in the role of development.

In general, when it comes to game knowledge and overall presence in the League of Legends scene, his eight years of professional experience across multiple competitive regions make him a standout candidate.

It is unclear what kind of specific position the former pro would undertake at Riot, since in a role like “software engineer” there may be a lot of room for generalities. However, with a large amount of experience surrounding the League as a whole, there is reason to believe that he will be actively involved in the game he has been part of for so long.
