A wide range of aspects have been bringing Malzahar onto the top of mid lane!

Malzahar is probably one of the champions that benefit a lot from changes during the pre-season 2021. This makes Malzahar having 53.46% of win rate and is ranking No.5 among mid laners, according to U.gg.
So, what makes him so OP? The first reason is Malzahar is using Liandry’s Anguish too efficiently. Malzahar is a kind of champion that needs a lot of mana and HP-burning damage to maximize his power. During season 10, there were no items that provide these two things to him, so he needed to own 2 items (Rod of Ages and Liandry’s Torment) to optimize his damage.
However, since Liandry’s Anguish appeared, it provided Malzahar with stats and effects that this champion needs the most. This makes the power as well as the influence of Malzahar is now much stronger and sooner than before.
Moreover, Malzahar is such a good choice to survive in the meta of assassins which is now dominating the game as his R – Nether Grasp can unable the enemy assassin just by pressing a button. Besides, his R is also a tool to set up an ambush to kill the enemy carry quickly.
However, Malzahar also has many weakness and you shouldn’t pick him in every single match! Malzahar’s skill range is just moderate, so this champion is extremely afraid of the ones having long-ranged skills like Xerath, Ezreal,…
About runes, Sorcery – Summon Aery is definitely the most efficient choice for Malzahar since it provides him with everything he needs, from mana to Ability Haste. About items, Liandry’s Anguish and Rylai’s Crystal Scepter are obviously the best choices for the two first items. The third one should be Demonic Embrace to increase his amount of DPS.
Note: Farming safely before level 6 is the best option for Malzahar because this champion is moderately weak at early fights so farming near your turret and telling your jungler not to fight before you reach level 6 are what you should do in every single match using him. Once you have your R, what you need to do is pushing your lane quickly and roaming to get some kills and control objects
Basically, Malzahar is obviously a nice choice in the “assassins everywhere” meta. If you need a mid-lane champion that can help you improve your rank, Malzahar is probably the best option.
