Ambessa toping the ban rate leaderboard in League
Throughout League of Legends history, certain champions have left an unforgettable mark, whether through overwhelming dominance on the Rift or near-permanent spots on the ban table.
The latest to join these ranks is none other than Ambessa, a new powerhouse tied to Arcane season two, whose strength has sent her ban rate soaring.
According to League of Graphs, Ambessa Medarda, currently holds a staggering 53.3% ban rate in Platinum ranks and above. This figure makes her one of the most banned champions globally, cementing her place as an overbearing presence in the top lane.
This isn’t entirely unexpected. New champion releases often attract attention, and Ambessa’s aggressive playstyle, marked by her mobility and ability to dominate one-on-one skirmishes, makes her both a threat and a crowd favorite. Even after Riot’s nerfs in Patch 14.24, designed to increase her vulnerability in difficult matchups, Ambessa’s impact on the meta remains significant.
Interestingly, many of the champions who theoretically counter her are ranged or high-DPS picks, which are less common in the current top lane meta. As statistics highlights, most of the top 10 played champions in this role are melee fighters, leaving Ambessa with few consistent counters and further reinforcing her status as a ban priority.
This isn’t Riot’s first rodeo when it comes to balancing new champions. Fans might recall other new champions’ initial dominance before Riot tempered her strength through successive patches. The challenge lies in keeping new champions viable and enjoyable to play while addressing community frustrations over their power levels.
For now, Ambessa continues to dominate as one of the most feared champions in League of Legends. Whether Riot will take more drastic measures to curb her influence remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: she’s not leaving the ban list anytime soon.
