Another Worlds record was broken by Faker after winning against Cloud9

At Worlds 2022, Lee ‘Faker’ Sang-hyeok, aka The Unkillable Demon King, smashed yet another League of Legends record. The legendary Korean mid-laner, who has a fantastic win percentage on top of it, is the first to play 100 games at the World Championship.

He’s already broken a number of records, both internationally and domestically, and he’s set to break another at Worlds 2022. Faker is the first player to play 100 Worlds games, completing the feat against Cloud9 at Worlds 2022.

He did so in spectacular fashion, putting on a clinical Lissandra performance to secure their second victory of the season. With a 0/1/9 statline, he may not have been kill-hungry, but he had plenty of crucial engages to help feed budding AD carry Lee ‘Gumayusi’ Min-hyeong to a monstrous 11/0/4 scoreline on Kai’Sa.

Faker has also had an incredible win rate at Worlds so far. Over the last decade, the Unkillable Demon King has won 72 of his 100 games at the major international event, and he has the opportunity to improve on that record in 2022.

There is a significant gap between Faker and any potential challenger for this title. Luka ‘Perkz’ Perkovic of Croatia, who will not compete at Worlds 2022, is second with 86 matches. Nicolaj ‘Jensen’ Jensen of Cloud9 is on 83.

Jeong ‘Impact’ Eon-young, Faker’s former teammate, has 80 games at Worlds, while Kim ‘Deft’ Hyuk-kyu, another of his contemporaries, rounds out the top five with 76.

Faker’s career appears to have plenty of time ahead of it as well. Following a mid-career slump in 2019 and 2020, he has found the renewed motivation to compete: “It’s important to keep a grinding mindset and always maintain your passion for the game,” he told Dexerto earlier in the tournament.

T1 is currently 2-1 in Group A at Worlds 2022 after defeating Cloud9 in Faker’s 100th game. They are tied with EDward Gaming and Fnatic for first place, with the top two advancing to the eight-team Knockout Stage later in October.
