Arcane awesome early storyboards shared by artist Seung Eun

Seung Eun Kim takes us on a journey through Arcanes earlier days.

Seung Eun Kim, a pre-visual storyboard artist, posted some storyboards drawn for Arcane, the League of Legends-inspired Netflix animated series.

Seung Eun provided a total of ten storyboards, claiming they were created “in the very early phases of Arcane.” Though many of the storyboards depict sequences that Arcane viewers are likely to recognize, there are some scenes and character concepts shown that did not make the final cut.

Several adjustments have been made to the story’s major adversary in this first hyper-realistic concept image depicting Vander’s showdown with Silco. Most notably, Silco appears to be missing his partially-corroded left eye and has a significantly larger physique than viewers may be accustomed to seeing.

Other characters, such as Vander and Jinx, have nearly identical designs from the early storyboards through the show’s ultimate broadcast. Powder, Jinx’s offspring, looks to have retained much of her design, from her utility belt to the near staple-like clips in her hair.

The lower storyboard depicts a radically different perspective on the animated series. Vi, one of the main characters, has a very different design than her final release. Her portrayal, clad in metallic shoulder pads, is significantly different from the sleeker jacket we see her wear for the most of the series.

The sequence was also deleted from season one of Arcane, since viewers never witnessed Vi cradling her nearly dead sister over the Piltover background. Though we did not witness this scene in season one, it does not imply it was completely removed from the series.

Season one of Arcane was a spectacular hit on Netflix, immediately climbing to the top of the most-watched category in a slew of countries. Long season two may have to wait a while, fans may ponder Seung Eun’s early storyboards here in the meanwhile.
