Did you know: Blade of the Ruined King passive deals less damage when paired with these items

This bizarre mechanism of the Blade of the Ruined King was discovered by the community.

Blade of the Ruined King (Botrk) has always been considered the most effective single target item in the League of Legends since it offers a comprehensive stat of attack damage, attack speed, and even life-stealing. However, this item does not seem to go well with the other items. Specifically, the player has checked and found that Botrk’s damage is reduced when combined with Stormrazor or Rapid Firecannon. Even if you build Botrk after other on-hit effect items, this phenomenon will happen as well.

  1. Botrk only: champion has 113 AD, hits 213 damage => Botrk passive damage: 100

2. With Stormrazor: AD 153, hits 241 => Botrk passive damage: 88

3. With Rapid Firecannon: AD 113, hits 201 => Botrk passive dmg: 88

4. With both Stormrazor and Rapid Firecannon: AD 153, hits 229 => Botrk passive dmg: 76

It seems like the current health will be calculated before the auto does damage and after the on-hit effects of Stormrazor/RFC. As a result, the damage of Botrk passive decreases when paired with these items.

5. With Guinsoo: AD 113, hits 253 (Guinsoo 40) => Botrk passive dmg: 100

The most interesting aspect of the Blade of the Ruined King is its interaction with on-hit effect items including Nashor’s Tooth, Wit’s End, or Muramana. If you build Botrk first, its passive deals 100 damage (current HP is calculated before the on-hit effects) and vice versa (deals less than 100 (calculated after the on-hit effects).

6.1. Botrk and then Nashor’s Tooth: AD 108, hits 208 => Botrk passive dmg: 100

6.2. Nashor’s Tooth and then Botrk: AD 108, hits 204 => botrk passive dmg: 96

7.1. Botrk and then Wit’s End: AD 143, hits 243 => Botrk passive dmg: 100

7.2. Wit’s End and then Botrk: AD 143, hits 241 => Botrk passive dmg: 98

8.1. Botrk and then Muramana: AD 172, hits 320 (Muramana proc 48) => Botrk passive dmg: 100

8.2. Muramana and then Botrk: AD 172, hits 315 (Muramana proc 48) => Botrk passive dmg: 95

Therefore, changing the order of the item slot didn’t make any difference. With the above tests, we can draw the conclusion that you should not buy Blade of the Ruined King if you are oriented towards Stormrazor and Rapid Firecannon. For gameplay that focuses on on-hit effects, you should first purchase Blade of the Ruined King to ensure damage.
