Doinb: “I can only say, apart from GENG, there’s no LCK team that can beat LPL, regardless if it’s the 2nd, 3rd or 4th seed”

Popular streamer, frequent leaker and 2019 Worlds Champion Kim ‘Doinb’ Tae-sang, midlaner for LNG, weighs in on the latest chapter in epic LPL vs LCK rivalry

Linda Pro League provided the English translation from Doinb’s stream

Doinb’s takes are based on scrims result that his team LNG had with other LPL and LCK teams. LNG went 5th in LPL Summer Season after falling to RNG 2-3 in the LPL Summer Regional Finals, and therefore will not have a chance to compete at Worlds. While there is probably a bias for LPL here, Doinb himself is Korean so we can trust that he would be at the very least a bit fairer in his judgment, and as the 5th best team in the Chinese region, there is credibility to his assessment as well.

“This year’s gap in strength is really big. We even said it in the team, that if we (LPL teams) don’t face GENG, then there’s no way we don’t get out of Groups”

According to Doinb, the 2 stand-out teams at this year’s Worlds are the Chinese JD Gaming and the Korean GenG. In a changing League landscape ever since the Durabilitty update, these are the 2 teams that understand the game on another level even compared to other super teams in the region.

Thus, he believes that LPL teams should make it out of the groups safely if they do not have to face GenG.

“What happens next depends on the situation, but we’ll make Quarters 100%”

The last time he used probability though, it did not end well. When Doinb was still playing for FunPlus Phoenix last year, he infamously claimed:

“Scrim results shows a 70% win rate no matter whether we are facing a strong or a weak team. Starting from tomorrow, I believe we won’t lose one single game.”

FPX ended up last place in groups and bombed out of Worlds 2021. EDward Gaming also ended up claiming the title despite losing the majority of their scrims (per Showmaker).

The community made sure to clown on the overconfident midlaner’s predictions this time around as well. Some reddit comments.

Scrims result aren’t everything. What matters is the result on the big stage. Predictions are a fun part of any sports though, and it looks like everyone are just enjoying themselves leading up to the biggest LoL event of the year.
