DRX defeated T1 to win the 2022 League of Legends World Championship in a tight 3-2 series. Cho “BeryL” Geon-hee, a support player, did not win the World Championship for the first time, but the other members of the squad, notably Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu, a famed AD carry, did. With this triumph, a Play-In team won the competition for the first time.
The focus of the first game was T1. T1 swiftly established an early advantage, built on it, and maintained it throughout the first fifteen minutes of the game by winning many crucial plays. T1 won the opening game with ease thanks to an unstoppable lead. For Game 2, they kept their calm and competed evenly with T1 throughout the first half of the match. The two LCK teams traded victories in the fights, but in the overall standings, DragonX performed better to win the second match.
DRX had chances to win the third game of the series, but some dangerous Baron Nashor calls from DragonX (together with some crucial steals from Mun “Oner” Hyeon-jun) turned the tide and led T1 to a 2-1 victory. However, DRX once more evened the series with a resounding victory in Game 4. Although T1 was able to win a number of battles in the decisive match, DRX’s better teamwork and tactical judgment allowed them to overcome T1 for the third and final time that night.
Most spectators and analysts didn’t expect DRX, a Play-In team at Worlds 2022, to be a title contender. Their games against EDward Gaming and Gen.G were regarded as some of the tournament’s highlights. Their knockout stage matchups were some of the greatest of the series. After ten years of competition, Deft, a longstanding mainstay in professional League of Legends, has finally captured the Worlds championship.
