With GenG’s 2-1 victory over KT Rolster on the 13th we have our LCK Summer quarterfinals set
GenG finished first in the group stage with a triumph over KT Rolster, going 17-1 in series and dropping only 5 games
Second place is the legendary T1 with a series score of 15-3 but with a game score of 31-13. The Faker’s squad is also seeded into the playoff semis, but this doesn’t seem enough to satisfy many Korean League fans as they sent trucks to protest the team’s coaches.
After KT Rolster fell to GenG and to 5th place in the groups, they will have to face the formidable DAMWON in the quarters while Sandbox and DRX kickstart the playoffs on August 17 (Full bracket via Leaguepedia)
LCK Summer is the first stop on the road to Worlds 2022 for Korean teams
Winner of the playoffs will be sent straight to the Worlds 2022 Group Stage, while higher placements will net the teams Championship points that will determine the 2nd KR representative. Teams placed 3rd to 6th will then be seeded into the Regional finals to determine the last 2 teams to attend Worlds.
Summer Championship points are important because in the case where 2 teams are tied, points gained during Summer Split will serve as the tiebreaker.
The stakes are high, and with the recent surge in performance from LCK and LPL squads, it’s shaping up to be a fascinating and competitive spectacle. This time around it feels like every team can pull off a clutch victory or a major upset.
Will GenG continues their impressive dominance in the group stage? Can a resurgent T1 live up to the absurd expectation their home fans have and topple this GenG juggernaut? Or will the top 6 pull off the unlikely and new champions will be born? We’ll keep you updated on the results!
