The first professional LoL league for older people has occurred for the first time in Taiwan
The Grandesports Championship – an LoL professional league, where players aged 65 or older take part in, is held by Hondao Senior Citizen’s Welfare Foundation. This tournament took place from August to November, including 3 teams with 28 players in total. They practiced 10 Esports games, and LoL is one of them.
Although they have never tried any single game, they struggle to get used to the games with the supportive coaches as well as their children. These elderly people spent a lot of time practicing and their enthusiasm seemed to have a huge impact on their children. They also made the keyboard letters easier to see by sticking large letters on the keycaps.
Hondao Senior Citizen’s Welfare Foundation is established in Taiwan on March 3, 1995. This foundation has been creating tons of activities for older people. According to Taiwan News, The Grandesports Championship is beginning on September 28 and being live broadcast on social networks.
Approximately 10 years ago, the documentary film “Go Grandriders” made by this foundation attracted a lot of attention from the citizens around the country. The film was about a story of “grandparents” riding motorbikes on a 1000-kilometer journey. This year, Hondao holds this tournament with the aim of narrowing the gap between generations.
