Kim “GimGoon” Han-saem, a former FPX player, officially announced his retirement on December 27.
GimGoon posted the breaking news on Weibo. Posting along with a picture of the framed jersey and a personal status, GimGoon wrote:
“After thinking about this for a long time, I have decided to retire. During my long career as a professional, I have always received a lot of support from you, from my teammates and friends. I have no regrets about my career. Thank you FunPlus Phoenix for the gift.”
GimGoon has spent six years in the professional league as an experienced player. FPX’s top-laner is most recognized for his participation in the 2019 World Championships with the LPL team.
GimGoon had a strong FPX year in 2019. The Korean player and the Phoenix team won the Summer Split championship – LPL, followed by the World Championship 2019. After winning the worlds title, GimGoon shared time in the starting lineup with Kim “Khan” Dong-ha in 2020 before being dropped completely from the FPX team in 2021.
With GimGoon’s retirement, FPX’s 2019 World Championship team is officially decreased. GimGoon and Khan, both top-lane players, announced their retirements not long after each other. With a deal struck with LNG Esports, mid-laner Doinb is seeking for new chances. Meanwhile, jungler Tian has joined the Top Esports team and had just won the Demacia Cup.
GimGoon has mostly spent his time as a streamer since his competitive break began, and he will almost certainly continue to stream now that he has formally retired.
