New Gangplank Patch 12.14: Early game nerfs, Big crit changes

The Saltwater Scourge in Patch 12.14 seems promising in the late game

Gangplank is one of the League of Legends champions that have been due for big changes for quite some time. While he was quite powerful, he had serious balance problems that the devs were unable to resolve

As a result, the devs made long-awaited adjustments to Gangplank in the 12.14 PBE cycle. Along with the normal Patch 12.14 Preview, Matt “Phroxzon” Leung-Harrison, the lead game balance designer for the Summoner’s Rift team, revealed the changes coming to him.

Gangplank is now much squishier than he was previously. His early wave clear potential has also been significantly reduced.

These adjustments will cause him to lose lane against any Fighters with high mobility. This was necessary since earlier, he could just demolish a wave of minions while poking his lane opponents excessively.

This allowed Gangplank to maintain control of the lane regardless of the opponent. As a result, it made it difficult for players to create a proper counterattack.

In any event, this early-game weakness will not last long, as he begins to improve significantly towards the mid-game.

His Passive and his Powder Keg (E) ability also has some adjustments to their crit. Gangplank’s Passive now scales with his crit chance, making him build crit items more often so as to maximize the true damage.

Gangplank may have sustained significant damage, but he is also incredibly squishy. The latest modifications will increase his durability, allowing him to trade efficiently in the late game.
