We will walk you through how to dominate with Nunu just like Faker.
Overview
Nunu & Willump – The Boy and his Yeti has been reworked and officially released since Patch 8.17. Even though he is much better than what he used to be, his playstyle doesn’t change that much compare to the previous one, which considered a little bit boring.
Furthermore, his Ultimate – Absolute Zero hasn’t been changed at all and it can be considered one of the highest damage ultimate abilities in LoL and also… the most useless because the existence of Flash, Movement Speed Boost ability, etc.
Because of the fully new release, we did have a chance to see Nunu pick rate rising again, but that is not enough, Nunu pick rate is still moderately low. However, recently, in Patch 10.13, he got buffed so hard and we started seeing Faker picked Nunu as a mid laner again created a phenomenon, revealing a completely new path to play Nunu.
Nunu Mid Play Style
- This is the rune and item build for Nunu.
Nunu absolutely needs Hextech Probelt-01 and Dead Man’s Plate, all other items are mostly situational.
- At the start of the game, around 00:30, Faker will use W – Biggest Snowball Ever! to guarantee an easy kill.
- Use your W from behind the tower to 1-shot caster minions (if you use W in front of the tower, roll in a circular motion to make the snowball bigger).
- His snowball deals damage twice: when it passes through enemies and when it explodes. After the snowball hits caster minions, reactivate W to clear them all.
- From level 1, you can immediately start roaming, if there aren’t any chances, repeat step 2.
- As you can see, roaming is extremely important when playing Nunu. Because he is naturally a tank champion, he must gain enough advantages for him and his team before his opponents have decent items.
- Rinse and repeat.
Nunu tips and tricks
- Gap close combo: E -> Flash -> Hextech Probelt-01.
- Controlling vision is as important as roaming, make sure to purchase Control Ward every time you head back to base.
- It’s actually easier for Nunu to solo enemy mid laner than roaming, if you notice an opportunity, make sure to grab it tight and give yourself an easy kill.
- With Heal from Q and Shield from R, Nunu can survive pretty much every gank and might turn around fights.
- There’s an interesting bug that Nunu can use with Honeyfruit. When you consume Honeyfruit, you will be slowed, when activating W, your W will let you immune to any slow applied to you, and the movement speed that’s taken away by Honeyfruit actually comes back and becomes a speed boost for Nunu.
