Did Heimerdinger Die?
In Arcane Season 2, Episode 7, “Pretend Like It’s the First Time,” Heimerdinger sacrifices himself so Ekko can return to his timeline. While this act suggests his death, the specifics remain ambiguous, leaving room for speculation about his fate.
The episode, hailed as one of Arcane’s best, revealed the aftermath of Heim, Ekko, and Jayce being sucked into an anomaly. Jayce found himself in a bleak, desolate Piltover, showcasing the darker side of Hextech. Meanwhile, Heimerdinger and Ekko arrived in a world untouched by Hextech, a paradise where Zaun thrived, Vander was still alive, and Jinx remained Powder.
In this alternate reality, Powder and Ekko were free to explore their love, but Ekko knew he had to return to save the real world. With Hextech remnants scavenged from Jayce’s apartment, Ekko worked with Heim and Powder to recreate the anomaly.
Initially, Heimerdinger appeared set to join Ekko, but realizing his expertise was essential, he stayed behind to ensure the process succeeded. Defying Ekko’s protests, Heim stepped out of the anomaly’s field and completed the sequence, vanishing in the process. His final words to Ekko, “Since I’ve met you, lad, I’ve truly lived,” suggested he had made peace with his choice.
Could Heimerdinger Still Be Alive?
Several clues hint that Heimerdinger may have survived. As a yordle, Heim belongs to a species known for its immortality in League of Legends lore. Yordles don’t age or die naturally, although they can be killed. In the games, if a yordle is “killed,” they reappear in their spiritual homeland, Bandle City.
Given the introduction of the multiverse in Arcane, it’s possible Heimerdinger didn’t die but was transported to a different realm. His supposed death isn’t shown explicitly on screen, adding to the mystery.
Fans have also pointed out Heim’s warnings in Arcane Season 1, where he shares his 307-year lifespan and advises Jayce against meddling with Hextech: “All my life, I’ve pursued the mysteries of science, only to discover some are better left unsolved.”
