Here’s how to play Caitlyn Support, T1 Keria’s new off-meta

Keria has been experimenting with non-meta support selections in his solo queue games, which led to him playing Caitlyn support

T1’s superstar support Ryu “Keria” Min-seok pulled out an unconventional Caitlyn pick in his second-week match against Kwangdong Freecs, which has many fans trying to ban her in their ranked games—not to avoid facing it, but to stop their teammates from selecting it.

Pros from all around the world have tried every approach they can think of to stop first-pick bot lane metas. BeryL has already created Jhin support, and Keria now has Caitlyn support. In order to totally eliminate Zeri from the game, Keria chose her as his support in an official LCK match and won.

How to play Caitlyn Support, Keria style?

Caitlyn is a lane bully as an ADC, and this adapts nicely to her role as a support. Her long-range poke, as well as the CC from both her traps and her E, making her usefulness appear to be superior to that of some champions.

Runes

Keria used the Hail of Blades keystone alongside Taste of Blood, Zombie Ward, and Treasure Hunter. When enemies approach, the hail of blades will assist her in poking them as much as possible.

On the secondary rune, by selecting Magical Footwear and Biscuit Delivery, she may also stay in lane far longer, and she can spam out abilities to poke her enemies down throughout the duration of an early game.

Items

Caitlyn should start with Spectral Sickle for assistance because she wants to poke a lot. The item will grant her a large amount of gold, allowing her to get Umbral Glaive sooner. Umbral Glaive is a core item to get since it lets Caitlyn to swiftly take down opponent vision while simultaneously triggering her Zombie Ward rune.

Aside than that, the mythic option is between Duskblade and Eclipse. Duskblade is ideal for snowballing if you acquire a lead in the lane phase, although Eclipse is more flexible and gives some resilience.

If you play the game long enough, Youmuu’s Ghostblade and Edge of Night are excellent choices. If the opponent team has a lot of healing, Chempunk Chainsword is a strong choice, while Rapid Firecannon offers Caitlyn even more range to harass in lane and later in the game.

Caitlyn support is currently a difficult choice to pull off because it is stronger in lane and only gives a lot of poke pressure versus shorter-ranged enemies. It’s unclear whether Caitlyn support will be tried in pro play by anybody other than Keria, but it has the potential to be the next hard-carry solo queue option.
