Aimed to recruit new female talents in League of Legends, the LCS Game Changers is making its very first steps in promoting gender diversity in eSports.
Riot Games has just introduced LCS Game Changers, a week-long tournament aimed at discovering and training female League of Legends players for amateur and professional teams.
LCS Game Changers’ mission is to “create a more diverse and inclusive professional esports ecosystem.”
“LCS Game Changers is a program to support women who are high ELO League of Legends players and work to transition them into our amateur and professional leagues. We understand this process can be daunting to do alone, and we’re excited to host this event that will act both as a training and scouting ground to provide women with more paths into the esports scene.” Riot Games explained their motivations.
Riot will pick ten of the most proficient female League of Legends players to participate in the program, and they will be coached by coaches and staff members from various companies throughout the LCS. Guest speakers will also be on hand to help participants go forward in their esports careers.
Earlier this year, Riot created a similar Game Changers initiative for VALORANT and a number of other female-focused titles, which was met with enthusiastic support from a significant number of fans. However, unlike past tournaments, Riot will not broadcast this League of Legends event live.
Prospective players may now apply for a position in the LCS Game Changers, with participants being chosen on September 3. The LCS Game Changers event will kick off on September 27.
