LDL Matchfixing: Chinese Academy League disqualifies Twelve and Team Orange, punishes 28 staff and players

The bans were handed out as a result of investigations into a LDL match between Twelve and Team Orange

The matchfixing was blatant as it can get. 12 were 14k Gold/Mountain soul/baron buff ahead vs Team Orange at 25mins and lost. Multiple instances of players making questionable moves: taking 3v5 fights, Kalista just walking straight into the enemy without using anything, …

The 2 teams were tied for 11th place in Group B of LDL, only top 6 makes the playoff so understandably the idea would come to their mind. As a result though, both were disqualified and heavy bans were handed out.

All results of Team Orange and Twelve’s other matches have been nullified.

Additional unannounced investigations were going on and resulted in additional punishment

Betting has always been a prominent element tied to all sports, esports included. Matchfixing is of course par the course, especially in academy and amateur leagues.

It is noted that owners and managers are usually part of the fixings or even coerce young players into doing it. This doesn’t happen often in tier 1 Leagues as the risks are simply too much, teams are required to pay hefty amounts in order to be franchised into the leagues; the same cannot be said about amateur leagues hence the difference in violation frequency.

These crackdowns are essential in keeping the fairness and integrity of academy divisions.

Recent League-related bans include Riot KR banning all VCS (Vietnam) players.
