This year, Riot aims to do a “full burndown” of the problems of League client.
Jessica Nam, the executive producer of the League of Legends, detailed the current state of the game in the latest edition of “lol pls” today –the “Riot pls” series, which had been renamed after a number of new games were launched by Riots in2020, including VALORANT and Wild Rift.
The League developers’ plan for 2021 to fix the problems surrounding the game client was one of the main pick-ups from today’s Riot game-state breakdown. In addition to axing a large amount of memory that each screen of client uses, Nam stated that the League devs made it a priority to reduce loading times for the individual pages of the client.
However, while client navigation is getting much more simple and convenient, players might still have problems with the client’s social networking features. In certain cases, players would not be able to access the Friends List from their League clients, preventing them from interactions or make it harder to queue with other players. “All those issues that you see with friends not showing up… we’re going to be addressing that this year,” Nam added.
With Riot’s notable achievement over the course of 2020 for the League’s client’s target areas—such as Champion select and Post-game lobbies—it can be no wonder that social groups are at the top of the developer focus list. Players should expect the client’s social aspect to be resolved in the near future. However, one more challenging issue for League developers might be the constant client crashes that players have encountered for a long time.
“We’ve seen the crash reports that players have been sharing with us,” Nam said. “We want to take a pretty firm stance and actually do a full burndown on all the crashes.”
The players most often suffer a client error when preparing for a game in champ selected or while loading onto Rift. Players might be stuck in the loading screen and either never enter or are forced to dodge the ban/pick phase until they load in.
Although it certainly seems like the client has a mind of its own, crashing at almost random times, it should be expected that Riot will thoroughly address the existing problems that League players face with the often-criticized interface.
