After months of waiting, League of Legends fans are finally receiving a new game mode, just in time for summer
Riot Games has released Arena as the newest LoL game mode as part of the Soul Fighter Event, offering a deathmatch-like with four teams of 2 duelling on a whole new set of maps with new settings and structures. Similar to the Double Up concept in Teamfight Tactics, these teams will fight in alternating 2v2 combat rounds until only one team survives.
Arena will provide variety to every encounter by utilising several gaming components that will spice up each play, and moment for every round until you either rise for the glory or feel crushed with a defeat.
League of Legends’ Arena game mode
Teams compete in Arena in rotating 2v2 combat rounds until only one team survives. Similarly, each side has a health counter that depletes when a round is lost. When a team’s health reaches zero, they are eliminated, and the last team standing wins the game.
Arena is divided into two parts: preparation and combat phase. Before the fight begins, players can stock up on items and augment power to use in battle. To avoid gold snowballing, every mythic and legendary item’s price has been equalised across the board, while augments offer quirky and powerful characteristics that will transform the way a champion is played.
After preparing, players are dispatched to one of four new arenas, where they will fight against the opponent.
Maps
Arena game mode has 4 distinct maps that will provide a unique experience each time you enter the fight phase. These maps will include a variety of the environment and unique map elements, forcing players to adapt their playstyles based on the circumstances.
Augments
Augments, like TFT, are very powerful power-ups that provide players a variety of abilities that may radically change the outcome of a match based on the influence of the augment.
Champion Cameos
Champion cameos are a new feature as well, which are map-wide player events that effect both sides and will also include the champions participating in the forthcoming Soul Fighter summer tournament. These cameos will require teams to adjust to the different hurdles that will be presented against them.
Finally, Arena will have its own ranking system, much like TFT’s Hyper Roll mode. There are five tiers to reach based on your Arena MMR, which should keep players returning to play this mode throughout the season.
This game mode is thematically tied to the Soul Fighter summer event, which has been much sought by players, so fingers crossed that everything goes well.
