Briar, a new bloodthirsty champion, will be one of the next champions introduced to League of Legends, and here are some gathered information of all the details about her so far.
A new ‘hangry’ jungler was hinted in the first Champion Roadmap of 2023, featuring images of a Castlevania-esque castle right out of a gothic horror novel. The structure was obviously Noxian, and the lore mentioned a “hangry” new jungler who would be added after the upcoming Darkin assassin Naafiri.
The latest Champion Roadmap has drawn back the veil a little more, and we now know more about the impending Champion Briar.
Briar, the upcoming Vampire champion
The origins of this new vicious jungler may be traced back to the emergence of Naafiri. Riot Games was seeking for mechanisms that reflected her “fervent hunger.”
It didn’t make the final blow for Naafiri, but Riot August, the head champion designer, spotted the abandoned mechanism and decided he had to utilise it. August has allegedly always been a big fan of a certain fabled monster, and this hunger mechanic worked nicely.
Briar is almost certainly a Noxian vampire of some type. Riot Games classifies her as a Diver/Skirmisher champion. It’s hardly subtle, with references to frenzies, bloodlust, and an uncontrolled appetite. A semi-feral vampire lurking in Noxus appears to be very plausible.
Briar seemed to be losing control of her appetite and going into a crazed condition at times. This is most likely the new mechanic that didn’t make it aboard Naafiri and that August assisted in translating to the Noxian blood-sucker. The champion even refers to her as ‘the beast,’ implying that she’ll be a vampiric skirmisher with high-impact plays.
Specifics won’t start to surface until Naafiri is released and the next Champion Roadmap is released. In the meanwhile, there’s enough to think about.
