Champions are the most central idea in League of Legends because each champion is a distinct figure from which players can choose in terms of gameplay and mechanics. Riot Games is changing all of its prices, which is big news.
Riot intends to make champion acquisition easier for new League players by altering both the blue essence (BE) and RP values for all champions. The new champion pricing will be determined not only by the date of release, but also by the amount of ability needed to master them.
Riot Games has changed the price of all League champions
Riot Games recently revealed that it was adopting a new strategy regarding the price of getting new champions in a dev post Champion Pricing Update on the official League of Legends website. The free in-game currency for League of Legends is called Blue Essence. Among other things, it can be used to buy champions, name modifications, and symbols.
Riot called their current pricing structure “a little archaic,” adding that it does not reflect how they believe players should be able to obtain their champions in 2023. The price cuts for champions will be based on how long they have been on sale. Prior to this, pricing was determined by champion brackets, with each champion moving down the cost scale as new champions came. With the new update, there will be 7 distinct price categories for champions as follows.
- 450 BE / 260 RP – Champions that beginner players will enjoy. They will possess a compelling theme and simple-to-understand skills. Examples include Malphite, Miss Fortune, and Yuumi.
- 1350 BE / 585 RP – More difficult than the lowest rank, but still accessible by beginners, are these champions tier. These champions will be more specialized and distinctive in their play style and theme, enabling new players to determine which game styles they prefer. Examples include Yasuo, Lucian, and Sett.
- 3150 BE / 790 RP – Champions that have a larger degree of difficulty or specialization in their play. These will often have steeper learning curves to climb before one sees consistent success with them. Examples include LeBlanc, Shaco, and Yorick.
- 4444 BE / 880 RP – This is a level that only Jhin can access because his fixation with the number four has achieved its pinnacle. This pricing choice is as much an inside jokes about Jhin as it is
- 4800 BE / 880 RP – The majority of champions will reside in this category, making up the bulk of the League of Legends roster.
- 6300 BE / 975 RP – Released in the last two years, champions who rotate to 4800 BE/880 RP at the outset of their third season.
- 7800 BE / 975 RP – Only champions who have been released for less than two weeks will remain at this rank. This is a pricing choice that prioritizes usability as much as it does avoiding BE inflation among seasoned players.
The overall decrease in the BE/RP prices of champions in League will leave less money available for all players to spend—140,606 BE and 14,905 RP. With patch 13.5, these adjustments will become effective across all regions.
