Riot acknowledged the “Critical Error” bug and is working on a fix
Bugs and League of Legends go together. Patch 13.7 is no exception, as it adds new client or in-game bugs. The patch introduced a game-breaking problem. The problem in question is the “Critical Error” bug in the system.
Because of the bug, the player-side client crashes. This can occur at any time during the game, from the beginning to the middle; it occurs at random. The game may also crash several times throughout a game or, in certain cases, each time the game is opened.
Crashes of this nature occur on occasion and are readily repaired by restarting the client; unfortunately, the problem crashes not just the client but also the System. As a result, the only way to get back into the game is to restart the computer.
Riot has apologised to players and claimed that they are “working hard to get it fixed.” They also offered some improvements that should help to alleviate the problems:
- In Windows, change the LoLClient.exe settings to “disable Full-screen optimizations.”
- Change the LoLClient.exe settings to “Run as Administrator.”
- Click the settings button in the League client -> General -> Set Close client during game to ALWAYS.
- Click the settings button in the League client -> Game -> choose “Prefer DX9 Legacy Mode.”
This is an intolerable situation in any game, let alone one as popular as League of Legends. Players agree and beg Riot to address the problem as soon as possible.
Following these steps should generally resolve the crashing issues, but for some players, it may not, thus you may have to wait for Riot to formally resolve the issue later.
