The League of Legends developers made changes to how players earn LP, but only for those below the Emerald rank.
League of Legends is a highly competitive game where two teams compete against each other. The game has a ranking system that shows how good players are at the game. There are many ranks, like Platinum, Diamond, and the newer Emerald rank, which is between Platinum and Diamond.
At the start of Season 14, many players had a hard time because they were getting fewer LP points than before, sometimes even losing points. Riot, the company behind League of Legends, wanted to solve this problem by reducing the number of points players below Emerald get.
In Patch 14.4, Riot Phroxzon announced that players below Emerald would now get fewer LP points. Instead of gaining or losing 28 LP points, they would get around 25 on average. However, the exact number might vary based on a player’s Matchmaking Rating (MMR) and the outcome of their games.
The reason for giving more points at the beginning of the season was to assist players below Emerald rank up faster. While this worked well for most players, some ended up losing LP points instead of gaining them.
This was because of something called “demotion protection,” which gives players a second chance to stay in their rank, but it sometimes caused a gap between a player’s skill level and their rank.
With the new changes, players should be able to climb the ranks more consistently. However, they also face a higher risk of getting demoted because of the LP point reductions.
