Following the release of Void-based champions in League of Legends, players eagerly anticipated a corresponding event centered around the Void theme. However, much to their dismay, no such event happened. Riot Games has since responded to player concerns by pledging to prioritize the creation of “cohesive seasonal experiences” moving forward.

A member of the League of Legends subreddit highlighted the absence of a Void-themed event in 2022, particularly after the introduction of Bel’Veth and her cinematic alongside Kai’Sa, which hinted at the possibility of such an event.

They noted that despite significant changes to in-game elements like Baron Nashor, Rift Herald, and Scuttlecrab to align with the Void’s themes, as well as the addition of Voidgrubs as an early-game objective, no corresponding thematic event was organized.

Riot’s Executive Producer of League of Legends, Jeremy “Bloodmoon” Lee, chimed in on the discussion, expressing the challenge of balancing gameplay and narrative content in a full seasonal event without disrupting the traditional Summoner’s Rift experience.

Lee acknowledged that in the past, League of Legends events tended to focus either on narrative or gameplay, but rarely both simultaneously. However, he reassured fans that given the positive reception of recent gameplay changes and the increasing interest in immersive storytelling, the development team is committed to delivering larger, more cohesive seasonal experiences in the future.

Another player lamented that only a few events in League of Legends history, such as The Odyssey, Star Guardian, Soul Fighter, and Bilgewater events, truly lived up to their potential. They expressed dissatisfaction with the abundance of lackluster events, emphasizing that a mere battle pass does not suffice as an engaging event for most players.

Riot Games has also previously discussed their ambition to establish a consistent lore canon universe across all their games, underscoring the importance of cohesive storytelling in their future event planning endeavors.
