Former professional League of Legends player Maria “Remilia” Creveling (nicknamed Remi) passed away forever on December 27, 2019 – information posted by journalist Richard Lewis on his personal Twitter account.
“It is with great sadness that I inform you that my best friend Maria Creveling passed away peacefully in her sleep yesterday. Her absence will leave a void that can never be filled.”
“She would not have wanted any lengthy statements or grand eulogies. Despite having fans all over the world she was never one who craved the spotlight. My only request is that anyone wanting to pay tribute reach out to ensure that it is done in a manner that respects her wishes.”
Remilia made history in 3/2015 after becoming the first female player to compete in League of Legends. After two years playing for many amateur and semi-professional teams, the female student born in 1995 joined Renegades to compete in the Spring 2015 LCS – the number one tournament in North America.
However, Remilia, only played for Renegades for almost a month before leaving the team. The reason given is because she has faced many criticisms, harassment and invisible pressure when Remilia appeared on the LCS stage.
Renegades was later banned by the Riot Games in May 2015 due to poor working conditions and colluding with another professional team, Team Dragon Knights.
Parting ways with Renegades, Remilia went to play for the Latin American League team Kaos Latin Gamers before playing a backup role for FlyQuets – another name at the LCS. Most recently, Remilia was on the list of the North American amateur team Sector 7 in addition to daily streaming and attended the Twitch Rivals Team Draft event last month.
