LEC champions Rogue will be playing as Gerard Piqué’s KOI for 2023 season after merger’s success

The deal includes other Rogue teams in R6, COD, and RL and they will all play under KOI brand along with KOI’s LOL, FIFA, TFT and Valorant teams.

Official announcement from Rogue’s twitter:

Rogue’s LoL roster will remain unchanged and compete as KOI in 2023

RGEhas found much success with its current iteration so understandably there won’t be any unnecessary reshuffle. 2022 season in particular has been looking great for the American org: 1st in LEC Spring season, 2nd in Spring playoffs; 3rd in Summer season, 1st in playoffs; European 1st seed at Worlds 2022.

Some info about their new org KOI

KOI is a Spanish team formed in December 2021, founded by former LVP caster Ibai Llanos, and FC Barcelona’s player Gerard Piqué.

The team’s LoL division had been competing in the Spanish Superliga LVP, not to much success. Although a relatively new org, with the financial backing of a famed footballer, KOI is looking to build and expand on their brand.

According to the merger, Rogue will maintain their management and infrastructure, just changing their brand name to KOI. It’s a deal beneficial for both sides.

And with this news the LEC will welcome 2 Spanish orgs in 2023, the other one being Team Heretics who had bought Misfits Gaming’s spot. A 3rd potential newcomer would be the French Karmine Corp as they negotiate for Astralis’ slot.

It’s safe to expect a huge bump in LEC viewership next season with these new big names joining the scene.
