Riot Games, the developers of LoL, have acknowledged the challenging issues within the game, such as toxicity, smurfing, and the presence of hard-stuck players in ranked matches.
The community’s concerns were addressed by August “Iksar” Ayala from Riot’s League team, who shared insights into the company’s plans to tackle these problems in the upcoming months in a Reddit thread.
In response to players about the state of LoL, Iksar highlighted that Riot has been actively working on these issues for the past few weeks. The focus has been on enhancing the initial placement experience for all queues, implementing improved smurf detection mechanisms, and maintaining a closer watch on ranked games.
Recognizing that issues like smurfing and toxicity are inherent in competitive LoL games, Riot has made strides in refining the initial placement in ranked matches.
According to Iksar, the goal is to ensure that players are matched with others of similar skill levels. In particular, efforts have been made to prevent low-elo players from being thrust into high-elo games.
To combat the creation of accounts with malicious intent, Riot is actively developing a system designed to automatically identify and target new LoL accounts created for the purpose of intentional feeding or any bad behavior. While existing tools are in place, Iksar acknowledged the need for improvements in speed and accuracy in detection.
Although not at the forefront of Riot’s priorities, the team is exploring the issue of duo queues, contemplating their inclusion in Masters queue and below. Additionally, Riot aims to dispel the notion that creating a new account is the only solution for players facing challenges with a “hard-stuck account.” Iksar expressed the team’s commitment to addressing any truth in this perception and changing the overall belief.
While the specific solutions are not yet disclosed, Riot appears dedicated to addressing ranked game issues, smurfing, and toxicity throughout LoL Season 14. Further information should be revealed as season 14 is progressed.
