2023 League of Legends has been an intriguing journey for many players, and Riot Games is attempting to clarify up some of the continuing debate over the game’s annoying aspects, as well as its future.
LoL upcoming durability and role changes
Riot Phroxzon, game designer on the Summoner’s Rift team for LoL, highlighted some substantial changes in terms of durability and role balancing as part of LoL’s upcoming adjustments in a recent developer blog today.
He confessed that he and the team are not totally pleased with the condition of champion durability or the physical condition of some roles.
In terms of durability, which has been a source of disagreement among LoL players since the notorious “durability update” was implemented, the development team points to recent midseason item adjustments as a primary factor in why champions appear to be doing and suffering more damage than before.
Recent modifications, like as the changes to champions who used to have Immortal Shieldbow as their Mythic item in Patch 13.15, serve as a method for the team to “restore [durability] over time.”
The team’s objective right now is to focus on the durability of champions with naturally weaker defences over the next several patches, primarily in terms of non-damage features.
Riot Phroxzon also recognized the state of specific positions in the game, notably top and ADC. While top laners have grown more significant in recent patches due to balance adjustments, even minor changes to a top laner can totally eliminate them from viability.
In the near future, the dev team hopes to reduce the disadvantage top laners experience merely by wishing to support other lanes across the map, letting them to move away from the term “toplane island” that has remained with the role for quite some time now.
The bot lane has been vastly overlooked by the overwhelming power that junglers continue to have over games. Though Phroxzon and the team are ready to reduce the power of ADCs once more in order to make it less important in snowballing early, he noted that a huge aspect that the team is considering is how this would impact the gameplay of the role—leaving the team at an a turning point in terms of determining the best way to navigate this issue in order to avoid creating unhealthy metas.
LoL Patch 13.17, which is set to be released on August 30, will aim to address some of the concerns raised in this development update.
