LoL MMORPG lead director leaves Riot Games in the middle of Project development

Greg “Ghostcrawler” Street, the League of Legends MMORPG’s Vice President and Executive Producer, has departed from Riot Games

Fans have been waiting for the launch of Riot Games’ massively MMORPG in the vast Runeterra world, which will elevate the League of Legends title. The anticipated MMORPG was expected to debut in 2024 or early 2025, though the precise start date hasn’t been set. However, Greg revealed on Twitter that he will be departing Riot Games for personal reasons, so that may no longer be the case.

Ghostcrawler has been an ongoing member of Riot Games, entering the company in 2013 to serve as the game’s main gameplay designer and guiding it through its meteoric rise.

He had relocated to Riot, where he would spend the remainder of his tenure as Vice President of IP & Entertainment. Ghostcrawler explained that leaving Riot behind was motivated by a combination of both personal and professional factors in the Twitter thread where he announced his departure.

The executive producer disclosed that he was emphasizing spending more time with his family in 2022 after experiencing losses in his personal life.

His situation is reasonable, but a lot of people have voiced skepticism regarding the forthcoming League MMORPG. Along with his departure, Greg addressed the topic and claimed to have assembled and skillfully created an amazing team. When it comes time to turn everything over for the upcoming phase, he has confidence that the game is in safe hands.

The League MMO is still in its early stages of development, but Riot co-founder Marc Merrill added on Twitter that the developers have discovered “a direction we’re very excited about.”

Many fans will be sorry to see Ghostcrawler depart the unnamed MMORPG because of the obvious effect he has had on League of Legends and Riot Games’ assets during his nearly ten years with the business.
