The midseason update is here, bringing a slew of changes to Summoner spells in League of Legends. Similar to last year’s midseason overhaul, Patch 14.10 introduces significant alterations across the game.

Amidst these meta-shaping adjustments, Riot Games is also introducing modifications to Summoner spells, which could potentially shift the meta landscape.

League of Legends Patch 14.10 Summoner Spell changes

Barrier

Cleanse

Exhaust

Ghost

Heal

Barrier, often considered a decent choice for many players, sees minimal use outside of a few ADC champions reliant on early skirmishes. To increase its viability, Riot is boosting the shield strength of Barrier at all levels and durations.

Cleanse, valued in specific situations—especially for ADCs and occasionally mid-laners—sees frequent use when facing teams with heavy CC. Consequently, Riot is adjusting Cleanse’s cooldown while increasing its tenacity to maintain its significance, particularly in competitive play.

Exhaust shares a similar scenario with Cleanse, albeit with a higher pick rate, commonly used by Support champions to sway fights in their favor. Recognizing its potential impact, Riot is tweaking Exhaust’s cooldown to balance its influence.

Ghost has surged in popularity, particularly among mid and bot-lane players, including the professional scene. Its utility in team fights for kiting or initiating engages has been notable. In response, Riot is reducing both the duration and cooldown of Ghost in the upcoming patch.

Heal, compared to other spells, undergoes a minor adjustment, extending its range slightly to offer players more strategic healing options for their allies.
