Riot Games has been dealing with rising dissatisfaction from LoL players as a result of what they view as a progressive reduction in the quality of loot boxes, capsules, and rewards in particular throughout the seasons.
When Hextech crafting was first introduced in 2016, players were thrilled with the large advantages they got. However, as time passed, the value of these rewards has dwindled, prompting many LoL players to voice their frustration.
Is Riot nerfing the reward system in LoL?
Presently, players reminisce about the past when they could earn epic chests containing valuable items such as skins by simply watching professional LoL matches, which has now been replaced with less rewarding Capsules.
Additionally, unlocking skins through the reward systems has become exceedingly challenging, requiring either significant investment or more dedication in playing the game.
Some players express disappointment over the reduction in end-of-season rewards, particularly when Riot used to send Challenger jackets to high-ranked players.
Nevertheless, not everyone is dissatisfied with Riot’s monetization approach. Some argue that Riot has the right to generate revenue from rewards, especially given that the core game is free to play, and the company needs to sustain itself.
Others point to the Amazon Prime partnership, which offers Prime Capsules providing RP for a monthly skin purchase. These players believe Riot’s monetization methods are fair and that players can opt not to spend money without detracting from their gameplay experience.
A few even employ the “back in my day” argument, suggesting that modern LoL fans should appreciate the current rewards, as earlier generations of players received far fewer rewards and were content with it.
It’s worth noting that Riot Games has not yet responded to the players’ comments regarding this issue.
