LoL’s Prime Gaming loot is ending – Riot Games explained why

Riot Games has announced that its partnership with Prime Gaming is slated to end next year, signaling an end to the monthly loot drops for Riot titles.

The developer of League of Legends confirmed the conclusion of the collaboration on December 14, stating that Prime Gaming, a division of Amazon, has chosen not to renew the promotional agreement. The curtain is set to fall on this partnership with the final Prime capsule drop for Riot scheduled for March 2024.

Despite the conclusion of the partnership, Riot Games has assured players that any content unlocked through Prime drops will remain accessible on the player’s account. Anna Donlon, Riot’s Senior Vice President and VALORANT lead, addressed the announcement, expressing the team’s commitment to finding alternative ways to reward players for their engagement and gameplay.

Prime Gaming members, particularly in VALORANT, have historically benefited from monthly drops that included gun, player cards, and sprays. Meanwhile, League of Legends players received “Prime Gaming Capsules,” featuring 350 RP, an epic champion skin, a ward skin, XP boosts, and various consumables.

The termination of the partnership doesn’t necessarily means the end. The initial collaboration reportedly concluded at the close of 2022, with a deadline extension until February 16 for players to claim the final capsule. However, an agreement was reached between Riot and Prime Gaming, leading to the availability of more capsules and Riot drops on the Prime Gaming loot page throughout 2023.

By publicly disclosing the expiration of the current deal, Riot might be aiming to leverage public sentiment to encourage Prime Gaming to reconsider renewing the promotion.

With several months remaining before the current deal expires, both parties have ample time to return to the negotiation table and potentially extend their collaboration.
