Following the success of Eternal Capsule, Andrei ‘Meddler’ van Roon – Riot Games developer reveals plans on expanding the Mastery system.
League of Legends, after its 10 years of developing, now has a massive number of champion that just reached 150 with the release of Samira. Despite the fact that there are so many champions that is available in the game, some players only enjoy playing certain champion at their roles, some, are even keen on playing only one champion in the game – who we usually call the “One Trick Ponies”
With the current Mastery System, you will get points for each match you play with that champion, the better the result, the higher the points you get, with the highest reward for an S rating match.
When you achieve a certain amount of Mastery points, you can begin to gain badges and emotes that reflect how experienced you are with a certain champion.
Although there are currently only seven levels of in-game mastery, after testing Champion Eternals, which monitors statistics such as damage done with abilities, Riot devs have announced plans to improve the system in recent months.
Andrei van Roon, League Game Director, stated that Eternals has already “hit the mark” and are now considering adding better rewards to the full Champion Mastery system.
The Dev of Riot announced that LoL fans were looking forward to more ways of advancing through the Mastery system: “I do think they suffer somewhat from players who aren’t interested in them wanting something somewhat similar (more progression avenues for example),”
After being asked whether the existing Champion Masteries would be extended, Meddler indicated that it was something they were looking at in the future.
“Can’t make any promises on timeline, but at some point, I’d like to expand Champ Mastery a bit more as a system,” he explained.
While it is still unknown whether these updates to the Mastery system will be made, as it is expected that the forthcoming item update will shake the League of Legends sometime after 2021 preseason.
