The client is still bad, but more changes are being made this year.

The League of Legends client is the key entrance point for players into all the game has to deliver, but it has become a critical subject within the community for its consistency and overall success over the last year.

Riot Am1t, Id, Aotus, and Failed Execution comprehensive improvements made to increase the consistency of the League client for all players in the seventh blog post of the client upgrade details collection. While all of these changes have been minor, they serve as the foundation for what is required to get the game up to existing expectations, as stated in the original announcement of the client cleanup.

The team behind the software stability improvements stressed the importance of the Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF) in this article, which basically serves as the client’s core web browser from which all other performance-altering application frameworks stem.

According to the team, “updating CEF is the single most impactful individual change we can make to improve the game, both in terms of direct benefits and unlocking our ability to make other improvements.”

Through upgrading the new CEF, the game would be able to execute such tasks that it was designed to do more effectively, such as reducing crashes, optimizing FPS for all matches, increasing animation performance, and using users’ CPUs more effectively. Riot anticipates that these updates will be enforced by the end of July.

Riot briefly addressed Javascript errors, which are mostly caused by client crashes, noting that the number has decreased significantly since preseason, but remains at a pace that is inconsistent with their client reliability principles.

For potential 2021 endeavors, the team hopes to address the prevalent problem of players’ games freezing and crashing after a victory or loss, as well as the infrequent phenomenon of players loading into champ pick later than others. This are scheduled to be completed later this year, with updates due in the coming months.

League players will currently participate in the Space Groove event, which introduces the new champion, Gwen, the Hallowed Seamstress.
