Information of new LoL international event in 2025
After more than ten years of hosting two big international events for professional League of Legends, Riot Games might be planning to add a new competition to see which teams are the best in the world.
This new tournament is said to be happening in 2025, in between the Winter and Spring Splits of the competitive season, as per information from esports journalist Alejandro Gomis.
While details about where it will be held, how it will work, and what it will be called are still unknown, it’s been mentioned that one team from each major region will be invited. There’s also a chance that teams from smaller regions might get invited too, although it’s not certain yet.
If this new event does take place in March 2025, it could mean fans will finally get to see teams from different regions facing off against each other earlier in the year. However, this might also mean changes to the usual schedule of competitive play, possibly pushing back events like the Mid-Season Invitational and the start of the following splits in different regions.
The introduction of this new event could lead to significant changes in how competitions are structured worldwide, especially in leagues like the LCS, LCK, and LPL. They might need to switch to a three-split format to fit in this new tournament, which could create scheduling clashes with their traditional Spring-Summer format.
In recent years, we’ve already seen big changes in how competitive League is organized, like the LEC adopting a three-split format in 2023 and the LCS returning to best-of-three series for regular season games in the 2024 Summer Split. More changes could be on the way for other major regions too, although nothing has been confirmed yet.
Riot has reportedly said that they’ll provide an update on the competitive schedule for 2025 in June, so fans will likely have to wait until then to know for sure about this new event.
