New surrender modifications were implemented in Patch 13.7, and here are some details you should be aware of.
Surrender is a mechanism in which players vote on whether or not to forfeit a game. A player may call the vote at any moment, and if the majority or all players agree, the team may forfeit it.
However, the mechanism has been one of the most annoying features in the game since its inception. It was created as a simple way to get out of one-sided games and relieve player anger. Nonetheless, due to substantial problems in its execution, it has become a source of resentment for certain players.
Riot, on the other hand, stated earlier this year that they want to tackle the issue and make changes to the surrender system. While some of the changes were made in Patch 13.2, they were only applied to normals.
Previously, a team had to receive all five votes to surrender before 15 minutes. With this new update, they can forfeit after 15 minutes with four out of five votes.
The modifications may not appear to be substantial at first glance, but they are. Many games in today’s meta are decided in 15 minutes or less. It’s incredibly tough to recover if a carry snowballs early or a team loses an early teamfight.
As a result, the vast majority of players in this situation opt to surrender and go on to the next game.
However, due to the absolute nature of the surrender system, it was difficult to accomplish. Even if the other players are unwilling to continue the game, many players will just hold the lobby or refuse to forfeit the game. Starting with Patch 13.7, players will be able to surrender early with 4 out of 5 votes, resulting in less frustration situations among players.
