LoL players criticized Nexus Blitz’s comeback as ‘unfun’ and imbalance

Riot Games reintroduced the long-awaited Nexus Blitz game mode with the League of Legends Patch 13.21 on October 25, 2023. However, the reception from fans has been far from positive.

Despite players’ initial excitement at rediscovering the nooks and crannies of Nexus Blitz, it didn’t take long for them to come to a consensus that the mode is both “unfun and unbalanced.” This sentiment was succinctly captured by a Reddit user known as u/RaiN_Meyk3r in a post dated October 29.

LoL players feel Nexus Blitz is just unfun

The primary issue players have identified is the drastic snowballing effect that occurs when a team falls behind in Nexus Blitz. Once you’re in that unfortunate position, it becomes exceedingly difficult to turn the tides and make a comeback.

Theres no fun in winning or losing because the event was rigged towards you or the enemy team. ”

“ Loot Teemo never leaving your/enemies side of the map, the Sorakas AI literally just walking into the enemy team while theirs is super careful, the flaming circle literally ending at the enemy teams jungle in the early game where have to to deal with the gargoyle that deals a million damage has knockbacks and has insane health.”

The mini-games, which were initially intended as a tool for players to regain momentum, have instead been designed in a way that favors the team that is already winning. This design decision, which is intended to expedite the game, ultimately negates the purpose of these mini-games and leads to an overall lack of satisfaction when participating in events.

Moreover, the outcome of these events has been meaningless. Players find themselves adhering to Nexus Blitz tier lists not out of enjoyment, but out of necessity to secure a victory. This shift towards a win-at-all-costs mentality has overshadowed the fundamental idea of having fun in the game mode. The very essence of Nexus Blitz, which is meant to be a more casual and entertaining experience, has been compromised.

Despite some players expressing their enjoyment of the mode, it’s evident that Nexus Blitz has its share of flaws. The events within the game are not balanced sufficiently, with the rewards for winning one event being excessively skewed. This imbalance has made it tempting for players to opt for meta champions instead of playing the champions they genuinely prefer, thus detracting from the overall fun factor.

In light of these concerns, many believe that Riot Games should have taken a more thorough look at Nexus Blitz before releasing it to the live servers once again. It appears that the initial excitement surrounding its return has been dampened by the mode’s inherent unbalance and the shift towards a more competitive and less enjoyable experience.
