Ex-pro and Riot Korea’s caster CloudTemplar drew attention to a fun fact about Worlds: No ADC over 21 has ever emerged victorious in LoL’s biggest stage.
The record so far is as follows:
- Season 1: LamiaZealot (Fanatic) – 21 years old
- Season 2: BeBe (TPA) – 21 years old
- Season 3: Piglet (SKT) – 19 years old
- Season 4: Imp (Samsung Galaxy) – 19 years old
- Season 5: Bang (SKT) – 19 years old
- Season 6: Bang (SKT) – 20 years old
- Season 7: Ruler (Samsung Galaxy) – 18 years old
- Season 8: Jackeylove (IG) – 17 years old
- Season 9: Lwx (FPX) – 21 years old
- Season 10: Ghost (DWG) – 21 years old
- Season 11: Viper (EDG) – 21 years old
There probably needs to be an in-depth study to explain this interesting peculiarity. But at a glance we can attempt to surmise our own explanation of this fun little fact. Younger ADC would be way more ambitious, driven and in a role as micro intensive as ADC or mid, the faster fingers and reflexes definitely help.
Older players obviously have an edge in experience, mentality and knowledge but could be hard stuck on outdated game sense while young players would bring freshness and unique perspective to the game and meta.
Out of the current top 4, T1.Gumayusi (20) is the only ADC who fits the trend.
The other 3 ADC over 21:
- Hope from JD Gaming is 22
- Deft from DRX is 26
- Ruler from Gen.G is 23
There probably isn’t much significance behind the statistics and it could just be an 11-year coincidence that may be broken this year
