Riot has released a new statement in which they clarify why a VGU poll for League of Legends has not been done in 2023.
Riot Games has been doing VGU polls for the past several years so that League of Legends players may choose which champions they would want to see new improvements for. The first vote of 2019 gave both Fiddlesticks and Volibear a new identity. Udyr was the next champion right after them, and sooner or later, Skarner’s rework is expected to be the next.
There hasn’t been any information about this year’s poll, though. Then, in response to questions from players about why there was none this year, Riot explained their decision.
Riot Games on no VGU Poll in 2023
Riot Lexical went on Reddit to discuss the lack of a VGU poll in 2023. This was then shared by Spideraxe on Twitter.
Riot Lexical claims that VGUs are expensive and demanding for the team. Thus, perfecting VGUs requires a lot of work, study, and other factors. So, unless Riot is ready to compromise on quality, this procedure takes a long time.
According to Riot Lexical, last year’s poll created a lot of pressure and stress on the team. This occurred as a result of Riot conducting a vote when the Udyr rework was ongoing. The team struggled under the strain, but they nonetheless held a poll and moved forward with the Skarner VGU.
Riot has thus decided to postpone the VGU poll this year in order to avoid going through the same process again. The Poll will not be held straight away, but this does not imply it has been postponed. As a result, it’s uncertain how far the next poll will be advanced.
Riot Lexical concluded by saying that they are attempting to modernise League of Legends in other ways. In a future dev update video, more information on the Skarner, Jax, and future VU/VGU will be revealed.
As for the community, this message has not been well received by the players because it just indicates that Riot is postponing improving many aspects of the game. Players believed that Riot merely needs to try to change this mindset, and we hope they can eventually make improvements to the game.
