A full update of League of Legends’ Mythic-tier cosmetic system was initially scheduled for early this year, but it is now officially available with patch 12.6
Nonetheless, some of the adjustments outlined by Riot placed numerous Mythic skins behind huge paywalls, causing uproar among League fans.
The Mythic content update aims to improve how League of Legends players obtain the rarest skins, icons, and other cosmetics. In place of Gemstones and Prestige Points, Mythic Essence will be awarded. Existing Gemstones will be transformed into Mythic Essence automatically. Until now, players had to choose between attempting to gain Prestige Points through scheduled events or obtaining Gemstones from chests and loot orbs in order to get Mythic skins.
Riot Games’ product lead on events, loot, skins, Ken Adams, said that the team has decided to roll back some of the more contentious changes that came with the overhaul. This includes postponing the removal of all Mythic-tier skins from chests and skin rerolls, as well as decreasing the cost of Showcase Prestige skins.
Riot originally said that new Prestige skins that debuted accompanying events will only be accessible for users to gain by going through tasks obtained by purchasing numerous event capsules—costing players a lot of money. This would prevent them from being directly purchased using event currency from event stores, as they have done since Prestige skins were initially available.
After the Prestige skins have been rotated out of the store, they will be available for players to receive at random by opening chests or skin rerolls. As previously stated, Prestige skins obtained in this way will not have the special border and icon that they give when purchased directly.
Players can now enjoy phase 1 of the overhaul as it hits live today with patch 12.6. The system is planned to be improved more in the near future.
