League of Legends was created over a decade ago, and while many new champions have been introduced since then, many plans have been scrapped and never seen again
Some followers may be unaware that there is evidence of several champions that Riot Games planned to create but never completed. Recently, social media users assisted in the discovery of a photograph depicting one of the first recorded sets of champions from Riot Games’ creation process. This includes champions who later became current champions right now (some with rework) as well as champions who are completely unlike anything in the game today.
Not every League champion concept has made it through the design process in the decade and more that League of Legends has been around. Here are the canceled champions that never made it to the official League of Legends.
Averdrian
Averdrian, the Astral Guardian, was a standard single-target control mage with Spirits as an internal mechanical. Averdrian appears to have possessed a number of entities with which he could inflict harm on those around him. Many fans, however, have reported seeing items for this canceled hero in their titles. The initial symbol for Averdrian’s Astral Beam ability is the one that shows on the players’ status bar when Baron Nashor is active.
When Averdrian emerged in a coffin on the Halloween edition of Summoner’s Rift, it was verified that he had been canceled.
Gavid
The community recognizes this champion, also known as the Plant King. Versions of his kit have been gathered from previously datamined variants of Gavid’s kit. Gavin would grow vines around himself and consume them to perform plant-themed magic, much like Zyra does now. Gavid’s ultimate involved him rooting himself to the earth, a concept that would later reappear in the initial version of Xerath.
Water Wizard
Also known as Well Soterios, is another canceled champion from League’s early age. Well has his own lore drawn from early forms of the champion, and parts of his kit have been data mined from earlier versions of the game. Well would give friends mana, as well as AoE abilities and an ultimate that was a buff for his entire team. He also had the power Summon: Water Elemental, which was probably a staple of his arsenal.
Omen
Omen was revealed alongside Yorick and Ao Shin as the champion who would eventually become Aurelion Sol.
Omen had most of an arsenal figured out, according to Riot Games staff Brian ‘FeralPony’ Feeney. His Q was a skill projectile with the ability to travel through targets. His W was a spike pod that he could hurl, detonating after a brief pause or when it was hit by his Q. His E was a point-and-click delay, and his ultimate was a long-rage, channeled circle damage ability.
Tabu
The notorious Tabu, The Voodoo Shaman, was briefly discovered in the LoL beta archives but never saw significant development again. This champion was canceled prior to release, and his powers were subsequently replaced by Yorick. When connected to the enemies, he was intended to be an active support who could apply debuffs to opponents and inflict over-time damage while recovering HP. Soul Drain, a channeled single-target damage drain with no maximal time, was his ultimate ability.
Husk
Husk, the Hive Leader, was another champion who was never published. Unlike the other terminated League champions, Husk split into two distinct champions who remained in the game. Husk was ultimately divided into Kai’Sa and Camille, each of whom bears a distinct aspect of her identity. Kai’sa picked up on the jetpack-like gear and use of gun-like weapons, while Camille picked up on Husk’s prosthetics and connection with Piltover and Zaun.
