There will be some exciting new additions for anyone who joins Summoner’s Rift in Preseason 2022.
Preseason 2022 will bring even more items to the table.
This year has flown by faster than many people anticipated. The summer is coming to an end, the 2021 World Championship is rapidly approaching, and Riot Games is even previewing some of the new features that may be added to League of Legends during the upcoming preseason.
League of Legends‘ director of gameplay production, Jeremy “Brightmoon” Lee, stated in a recent State of Gameplay developer post that the team was planning to add a handful of new features to the in-game shop that should appeal to players of all types, including mage, tank, and assassin enthusiasts.
Two new mage items are in the works for Preseason 2022. First, a defensive Mythic is being developed in the Lost Chapter space, with the goal of “guarding mages by reducing incoming champion damage for a brief period of time when they’re first attacked.” As a way to cater to ranged spellcasters rather than close-range champions, the item’s combat power will diminish once that specific protection wears off.
The second item will be a Legendary, which will aid mages in piercing shields by increasing magic penetration against low-health targets and recently shielded enemies. This is ideal for champions who rely on quick bursts of damage, such as Zoe, LeBlanc, and even Syndra.
Meanwhile, support tanks will be pleased to learn that they will receive a new offensive Mythic item that will “reward them for getting into the middle of the enemy team and wreaking havoc in Preseason 2022.” The item’s effect is activated when it immobilizes an enemy champion, causing all nearby enemies to take increased damage. It has a nearly identical effect to Abyssal Mask, which is why that item will be altered.
A new Legendary tank item is also in development, which will provide users with a large amount of mana while also allowing them to use mana for additional shields whenever they immobilize or slow an enemy champion.
Finally, most assassin items have been focused on single-target burst damage, but Riot has looked into creating something that allows for more spell rotations rather than just one burst attack in Preseason 2022. The item’s current iteration provides a good amount of ability haste and reduces the cooldown of an ultimate ability whenever an enemy dies within three seconds of being damaged by the item’s user.
