Riot Games has recently announced that major price changes are set to take effect across all of their games in 2024
In an official news post on their website, Riot Games stated that starting September 18, prices for virtual currency in their games, such as League of Legends and VALORANT, will be adjusted.
These price adjustments have sparked some controversy among players, with reactions varying depending on the region and individual opinions. Many players feel that the prices have always been high for the in-game content Riot offers, yet they continue to purchase skins and other items without much hesitation. Despite the complaints, it’s clear that people are still willing to invest in the game’s cosmetic items.
“We sometimes need to adjust our pricing to account for shifts in exchange rates and local economies.”
One notable aspect of Riot Games’ pricing model is that it has remained relatively stable over the years. There have been very few price changes, and when adjustments were made, they were usually minor. So why is Riot Games choosing to increase prices now?
The primary reason is to combat market manipulation by third-party websites and online stores. Due to the economic situations in various countries, there is often regional pricing in place for online games and stores, which can be exploited by these third parties.
Before these new price changes are implemented, Riot Games is offering bonus currency for in-client purchases, but only in the regions where prices will be going up. This bonus is intended to ease the transition for affected players.
The exact price increases will vary based on the specific game and the player’s region, and Riot has provided detailed information on these adjustments for those affected.
