Riot reworks Gargoyle Stoneplate, turning into ‘Deathcap’ version for Tanks

Gargoyle Stoneplate changes have recently been shifted to the PBE server

With Preseason 2023 rapidly approaching, Riot is implementing some last-minute tweaks, one of which is the rework of Gargoyle Stoneplate.

Gargoyle Stoneplate is one of League of Legends’ most unusual tank items. With its active Monolith, the item provides armor and magic resist, ability haste, and a massive max HP shield.

Since its first introduction in Season 7, the item has seen several adjustments, including build pathing, cost, and actives. And now, Riot Games is reworking this item once again.

Reworked Gargoyle Stoneplate

Spideraxe recently tweeted about the Gargoyle Stoneplate rework. Riot appears to be pushing the Gargoyle Stoneplate toward being a late-game item, comparable to Rabadon’s Deathcap for AP users.

Gargoyle’s price on the PBE has been raised from 3200 to 3600, a considerable increase. Because no tank has 3600 gold laying around, the balance team is also modifying the build path from Cloth Armor, Aegis, and Null Mantle to Chain Vest, Aegis, and Negatron.

Furthermore, the shield duration has been raised from 2.5 seconds to 3 seconds. However, the shield will now expire after one second of being active. Finally, both armor and magic resist are being significantly increased from 60 to 80.

The Armor and Magic Resist increases may appear insignificant at first, but with it’s passive Fortify raising Armor and Magic Resist by 55, up to 25%, it will provide a significant amount of value.

Overall, this is a solid update for Gargoyle Stoneplate and should make it viable on most tanks.

The modifications are presently being tested on the PBE and will be implemented on League of Legends live servers with patch 12.22, which will be released on November 16.
