Admittedly hack/cheat has become a major problem in the gaming community, not only in League of Legends but also with countless other games and Riot is constantly trying to fight this phenomenon, ensuring a healthy environment for players.
However, to do that is not simple. Although there have been many solutions to punish and protect the Union from this bad phenomenon, every year, the variations of hack/cheats are increasing and unpredictable than ever.
In his latest issue of DevBlog, MIRAGEOFPENGUINS talked about the new anti-hack / cheat system being developed by Riot’s game development team. In addition to many specialized concepts brought out, there is a notable highlight: Riot’s new anti-cheat system will … hack to combat hacking.
Accordingly, Riot’s new anti-cheat system will interfere with the top level of your computer system – the kernel – in the same way that cheats software can cause game distortions – to be tracked bad behaviour that affects the Union and takes measures to deal with it.
However, hacking is different from cracking: hacking also hack this, hack that. Hackers also have white hats and black hats. Riot Games asserts that they will not take advantage of this to steal player information.
MIRAGEOFPENGUINS advises players not to be too confused by this information, because this “anti-cheat technology” is new in LoL, but has been applied and developed by many other games. Moreover, in this way, Riot not only performs the “anti” step but also ensures the “defence” step, making the cheat software more difficult to operate more quietly.
Riot intends to not only apply it to League of Legends but also to include it in other games in its game expansion project. The game village giant is focusing all his efforts to create a clean environment with healthy and happy moments for players.
I think I’m going to panic?
There are several reasons you should absolutely not do that.
- Stress can lead to excess hair loss, and I don’t want your head to get cold.
- This isn’t giving us any surveillance capability we didn’t already have. If we cared about grandma’s secret recipe for the perfect Christmas casserole, we’d find no issue in obtaining it strictly from user-mode and then selling it to The Food Network. The purpose of this upgrade is to monitor system state for integrity (so we can trust our data) and to make it harder for cheaters to tamper with our games (so you can’t blame aimbots for personal failure).
- This isn’t even news. Several third-party anti-cheat systems—like EasyAntiCheat, Battleye, and Xigncode3—are already utilizing a kernel driver to protect your favorite AAA games. We’re just installing our own sous-chef to the Windows kitchen, so that when we hit em with a “where’s the beef,” we know we’re getting an honest answer.
- It will be significantly harder to create undetected cheats: protecting you from aimbots, protecting us from Reddit, and protecting cheaters from themselves.
We believe anti-cheat is one of the most important components of an online multiplayer game, and we want you to play in a world where you never have to doubt the abilities of your opponent. There is no cure for cheat fever, but we will continue to do anything it takes to bring you the best competitive experience possible.
