Riot might have discovered why LoL sometimes encounters lags

Riot has finally found out a way that makes LoL encounter lags every now and then

League of Legends is a famous multiplayer online battle arena game with a massive global player base around the world. And, like nearly every online game, League of Legends occasionally encounters lags for players, and a Riot Games dev recently disclosed a few reasons why.

Riot Tony detailed some potential causes for random FPS drops in League of Legends in a Reddit post on March 24. According to the dev’s response, the lagging could be linked to the players’ mouse with fast framerates, shader settings, and frame limiting.

“We’ve recently discovered that mice with very high update frequencies can actually cause the game to slow down.”

He went on to say that the developers are uncertain “why yet,” but that having a mouse with a greater update rate than your frame rate will provide no advantage to the game experience, but rather some FPS drops occasion.

Tony added that all shaders should be precompiled. You may notice data being imported in the middle of the game leading to the lags. This is unnecessary and should not occur, but it does occur on accident. Tony mentioned that frame capping could use an update, and the developers are looking into it but don’t have a firm timetable yet.

Nonetheless, the developers want to repair and patch it wherever they can, and based on Tony’s latest answer, they’re working on it thoroughly. It’s nice to see the devs care about the players’ experience every now and then. Hopefully, Riot Games will continue to improve these kind of systems in response to players’ feedback.
